Be someone whose Windows installation crashed. Your laptop comes with Vista Basic, but refuses to boot, and finds no media recovery content. The recovery partition may or may not be accessible. If I had to take the Vista Basic upgrade retail, I would be able to boot from it and use recovery options to repair the existing installation? If not, Vista Basic full version let me? It uses a Toshiba Satellite laptop, and an error of disc occurs after startup. I am familiar with Linux live CDs, but I want to know my options for repairing the existing Windows installation. Thanks advance.
I think your options start with the realization that the hard drive is probably incorrect (wrong disk is the first track), and attempts to repair a damaged operating system in a failed hard drive is not a good idea. No doubt you can try one of the tools on the Ultimate Boot CD (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/) MHDD more specifically. Also, if your friend has important information on the hard disk, you have to walk very carefully, like a surprising number of lost data "actions" to a useful computer technician, or a friend. The forum http://forum.hddguru.com/ be useful, but be sure to keep your computer off before you take. Even with the power of unity can make recovery more difficult, and may reduce the possibility of renewed success and the amount of data recovered. Ultimately, you'll likely need a new facility in a new disk. Even if you can save the old operating system, files from time to time can be corrupt and simply be called problems.
